Maya Youssef is a Syrian musician and composer, known as the "queen of the qanun," a 78-string Middle Eastern zither. Her music is rooted in the Arabic classical tradition but incorporates elements of jazz, Western classical, and Latin styles. Her debut album, "Syrian Dreams," was released in 2017, followed by "Finding Home" in 2022. Youssef has performed at events such as the BBC Proms and WOMAD and has received awards including the Songlines Music Award. She currently resides in the United Kingdom, having moved there in 2012.
