Melissa Aldana is a Chilean tenor saxophonist born on December 3, 1988, in Santiago. Coming from a musical family, she began playing the saxophone at age six under the guidance of her father, Marcos Aldana. After studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, she released her debut album, "Free Fall," in 2010. In 2013, she became the first female instrumentalist and the first South American musician to win the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. Her notable albums include "Melissa Aldana & Crash Trio" (2014), "Visions" (2019), and "12 Stars" (2022).
