Memphis Slim, born John Len Chatman on September 3, 1915, in Memphis, Tennessee, was an American blues pianist, singer, and composer. Over his career, he recorded more than 500 songs and is renowned for hits like "Every Day I Have the Blues" and "Mother Earth". In the 1940s, he collaborated with Big Bill Broonzy and later with Willie Dixon. In 1962, he moved to Paris, where he continued recording and performing until his death on February 24, 1988.
