Merry Clayton is an American soul and gospel singer, best known for her duet with Mick Jagger on the Rolling Stones' 1969 song "Gimme Shelter". Born on December 25, 1948, in New Orleans, she began her career as a member of Ray Charles' backing group, the Raelettes. Clayton released several solo albums, including "Gimme Shelter" (1970) and "Merry Clayton" (1971). She also collaborated with artists such as Neil Young and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
