Merzbow is a Japanese noise project founded in 1979 by Masami Akita. Known for its harsh noise music style, Akita has released over 500 recordings since 1980. The name Merzbow is derived from the work of German Dada artist Kurt Schwitters, Merzbau. Notable albums include "Venereology" (1994) and "Pulse Demon" (1996). Akita has collaborated with artists such as Boris, Keiji Haino, and Mats Gustafsson. His work is influenced by genres like noise, industrial, and ambient. Since the early 2000s, he has been inspired by animal rights and environmentalism, which is reflected in his recordings. The products available from the artist Merzbow include CDs.
