Midori Takada is a Japanese composer and percussionist, recognized as a pioneer of ambient and minimalist music. After graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts, she began her career in the mid-1970s as a percussionist in Berlin. She later returned to Japan to study African drumming and Indonesian gamelan. In 1981, she formed the Mkwaju Ensemble, releasing the albums "Mkwaju" and "Ki-Motion". Her first solo album, "Through The Looking Glass" (1983), was recorded in three days and features diverse instrumentation. In 1999, she released "Tree of Life".
