Mike Westbrook is an English jazz pianist and composer, renowned for his orchestrated jazz works. Born in High Wycombe and raised in Torquay, he studied painting at art school in Plymouth before leading his first bands in 1958. Moving to London in 1962, he led various large and small ensembles, becoming a key figure in British jazz. Notable albums include "Metropolis" (1971), "The Westbrook Blake – Bright As Fire" (1980), and "On Duke's Birthday" (1985). His latest album, "Band of Bands," was released in 2024. Westbrook is known for his unique style that blends composition, song, and improvisation, often collaborating with his wife, vocalist and lyricist Kate Westbrook.
