Mikhail Pletnev is a Russian pianist, conductor, and composer. In 1978, he won the Gold Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. In 1990, he founded the Russian National Orchestra, the first independent orchestra in Russia's history. His recordings include works by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev. In 2005, he received a Grammy Award for his recording of Prokofiev's "Cinderella" for two pianos with Martha Argerich. As a composer, he has created works such as the "Classical Symphony" and transcriptions of Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker." In 2022, he founded the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra.
