Mohamed Ilyas is a prominent musician from Zanzibar, known for his contributions to the taarab genre. In 2009, he released the album "Taarab" with the 16-member Nyota Zameremeta Orchestra of Zanzibar, recorded at the Sauti za Zanzibar studio. The album blends African percussion with Egyptian strings and spontaneous vocals, reflecting Zanzibar's cultural diversity.
