Nino Tempo, born Antonino LoTempio in Niagara Falls, New York, was an American musician, singer, and actor. He was best known for his collaboration with his sister April Stevens; their 1963 rendition of "Deep Purple" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy Award for Best Rock and Roll Recording. Tempo was also a sought-after session musician, working with artists like Maynard Ferguson and John Lennon. In the 1970s, he formed the funk band 5th Ave. Sax, which had a hit with "Sister James."
