Nubya Garcia is a British saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, born in 1991 in London. She studied under pianist Nikki Yeoh at Camden Music and later at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. In 2017, she released her debut EP "Nubya's 5ive," followed by her debut album "Source" in 2020, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. In 2024, she released her second album "Odyssey." Garcia is a member of the groups Nérija and Maisha and has collaborated with artists such as Moses Boyd and Shabaka Hutchings. In 2021, she received the Downbeat's Critic's Poll Rising Star Award for tenor saxophone. Her music blends elements of jazz, African, Caribbean, and Latin American influences.
