Ornette Coleman (1930–2015) was an American jazz saxophonist, trumpeter, violinist, and composer, known as a pioneer of free jazz. Born in Texas, he began playing the saxophone as a teenager. His debut album, "Something Else!!!!," was released in 1958. Notable recordings include "The Shape of Jazz to Come" (1959) and "Free Jazz" (1960). Coleman developed the "harmolodic" theory, emphasizing the equal importance of harmony, melody, and rhythm. In 2007, he received the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his album "Sound Grammar."
