The Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra is a Norwegian symphony orchestra based in Oslo, established in 1919. The orchestra traces its roots to the Philharmonic Society founded in 1847 and the Christiania Musical Association co-founded by Edvard Grieg in 1871. Since 1977, it has been based in the Oslo Concert Hall. The orchestra performs an average of 60 to 70 symphonic concerts annually, most of which are broadcast nationally on the radio. Notable recordings include the complete symphonies of P. I. Tchaikovsky under Mariss Jansons and the complete symphonies of J. Sibelius under Klaus Mäkelä. The current chief conductor is Klaus Mäkelä.
