Otep was an American nu metal band formed in November 2000 in Los Angeles by vocalist Otep Shamaya. The band was known for their "art-house nu metal" style and strong political stances. Throughout their career, they released several albums, including "Sevas Tra" (2002), "House of Secrets" (2004), and "Hydra" (2013). Their music often incorporated elements of death metal, and they were influenced by bands such as Slipknot, Korn, and Rage Against the Machine. Otep was active until 2024, with Otep Shamaya being the only constant member throughout the band's existence.
