Auburn "Pat" Hare was an American electric blues guitarist and singer, known for his heavily distorted guitar style in the 1950s. Born in Cherry Valley, Arkansas, he began his career as a sideman for artists like Howlin' Wolf, James Cotton, and Muddy Waters. In 1951, he joined Little Junior's Blue Flames, where his playing on "Love My Baby" influenced the rockabilly style. His solo on James Cotton's 1954 "Cotton Crop Blues" is considered the first recorded use of heavily distorted power chords, foreshadowing elements of heavy metal. In 1963, Hare was convicted of murder and spent the remainder of his life in prison, where he died in 1980. The products available from the artist Pat Hare include CDs.
