Peter Planyavsky is an Austrian organist, composer, and educator born in 1947 in Vienna. He studied under Anton Heiller at the Vienna University of Music, earning diplomas in organ performance and church music. From 1969 to 2004, he served as the organist at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna and began teaching organ and improvisation at the Vienna University of Music in 1980. Planyavsky is renowned for his interpretations of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and Johannes Brahms. Additionally, he has composed numerous pieces for organ, choir, and orchestra, focusing primarily on liturgical works. In 2017, he earned a doctorate from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with a dissertation on Anton Heiller's compositional techniques.
