Pieter Wispelwey is a Dutch cellist born in 1962 in Haarlem. He studied with Dicky Boeke and Anner Bylsma in Amsterdam, later with Paul Katz in the USA and William Pleeth in the UK. In 1992, he became the first cellist to receive the Netherlands Music Prize. His discography includes over 30 albums, including three recordings of Bach's solo cello suites. Wispelwey is known for his ability to perform on both modern and baroque cellos, with a repertoire ranging from Bach to contemporary composers. He teaches at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. The products available from the artist Pieter Wispelwey include CDs.
