Planxty was an Irish folk band formed in 1972 by Christy Moore, Andy Irvine, Dónal Lunny, and Liam O'Flynn. The group was known for its innovative approach to traditional Irish music, blending traditional instruments with those from other cultures, such as the bouzouki and mandolin. Notable albums include "Planxty" (1973), "The Well Below the Valley" (1973), and "After the Break" (1979). In 1979, flautist Matt Molloy joined the band before later becoming a member of The Chieftains. Planxty played a significant role in the revival of traditional Irish music during the 1970s.
