Pretty Purdie and The Playboys was a group led by American jazz drummer Bernard "Pretty" Purdie. In 1971, they released the album "Stand By Me (Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get)", featuring covers of well-known songs like "Stand By Me" and "You've Got a Friend". The album was recorded at Atlantic Recording Studios in New York and produced by Bob Thiele. Purdie is renowned for his contributions to the soul jazz and jazz-funk genres and has collaborated with artists such as Gil Scott-Heron and Aretha Franklin.
