Quartetto Italiano was an Italian string quartet founded in 1945. The ensemble consisted of Paolo Borciani (first violin), Elisa Pegreffi (second violin), Lionello Forzanti (viola), and Franco Rossi (cello). Later, Forzanti was replaced by Piero Farulli, and in 1977, Dino Asciolla joined the group. The quartet specialized in interpreting works by classical composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Claude Debussy. Their recordings of Beethoven's late string quartets are considered benchmark performances. The group disbanded in 1980. The products available from the artist Quartetto Italiano include CDs.
