Ravi Shankar was an Indian musician and composer, renowned as a virtuoso of the sitar. Born in Varanasi, India, he became one of the most prominent figures in Indian classical music. In 1971, he composed the "Concerto for Sitar & Orchestra," which premiered in London with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by André Previn. This concerto was recorded at EMI Studios in London and released on albums under the His Master's Voice and Angel Records labels.
