Red Norvo, born Kenneth Norville, was an American jazz vibraphonist known as "Mr. Swing". Born in Beardstown, Illinois, he began his career in Chicago in 1925. He played with numerous bands, including those of Paul Whiteman, Benny Goodman, and Woody Herman. From 1933 to 1942, he was married to singer Mildred Bailey, with whom he was known as "Mr. and Mrs. Swing". His notable recordings include "Dance of the Octopus", "Bughouse", and "Knockin' on Wood". Norvo was a pioneer in incorporating the xylophone, marimba, and vibraphone into jazz. He passed away in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 91.
