René José Humphries Stephens, known as René Grand, was born on July 22, 1935, on the island of San Andrés, Colombia. As a pianist and musical director, he led René Grand Y Su Combo New York, a group that regularly performed in prominent Latin clubs in New York City. Their albums "El Gran" (1966) and "Exciting and Grand" (1967) feature hits like "Cool," "Go Go Mambo," and "Sigue La Gente." Throughout his career, René Grand also served as a priest, teacher, and worked as a civil servant for the City of New York.
