Richard "Groove" Holmes was an American jazz organist known for his performances in the hard bop and soul jazz genres. His career began in 1961 with the debut album "Groove," featuring collaborations with Les McCann and Ben Webster. Among his most significant works is the 1965 album "Soul Message," which includes his best-known recording, "Misty." Holmes was renowned for his powerful, blues-influenced style on the Hammond B-3 organ, influencing many subsequent organists. Throughout his career, he collaborated with musicians such as Houston Person and Gene Edwards. He passed away in 1991 after battling prostate cancer.
