Ritchie Valens was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter born in 1941 in Pacoima, California. He was a pioneer of rock and roll and among the first to integrate Mexican musical elements into the genre. His most notable songs include "La Bamba," an adaptation of a Mexican folk song, and "Donna," which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Valens's career was tragically cut short in 1959 when he died in a plane crash alongside Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper. Despite his brief career, he left a lasting impact on the music industry.
