Roy Brooks was an American jazz drummer known for his contributions to the hard bop and soul jazz genres. In 1963, he released his debut album "Beat," followed by "The Free Slave" in 1970. He collaborated with notable musicians such as Horace Silver, Yusef Lateef, and Sonny Stitt. Brooks was also a member of the group M'Boom, founded by Max Roach. His innovative approach to drumming and use of unconventional instruments, like the musical saw, contributed to his unique sound.
