Rupert Ignaz Mayr was born in Schärding am Inn, Upper Austria, in 1646 and died in Freising, Bavaria, on February 7, 1712. He was a distinguished violinist and composer who served at various German courts. In 1683, he moved to Munich, where he was engaged as "Primus Violinista Aulae et Camerae musicus" and composer. In 1706, he was appointed Kapellmeister at the court in Freising. His work includes sacred music, violin sonatas, and music for school plays. Mayr's music is influenced by the Italian concertato style and incorporates elements of Bavarian folk music. His compositions are known for their polyphonic textures and expressive monodies.
