Sam Cooke was an American singer and songwriter who began his career as the lead vocalist of the gospel group The Soul Stirrers. In 1957, he transitioned to popular music, achieving success with the hit "You Send Me." His other notable songs include "Chain Gang," "Wonderful World," and "Twistin' the Night Away." Cooke was a pioneer in the R&B and soul genres, with his song "A Change Is Gonna Come" becoming an anthem of the civil rights movement. He founded his own record label, SAR Records, and publishing company. In 1986, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
