Sampa the Great, born Sampa Tembo, is a Zambian singer, rapper, and songwriter. Born in Ndola, Zambia, she grew up in Gaborone, Botswana. After studying in the United States, she moved to Australia, where she released her debut mixtape, "The Great Mixtape," in 2015. Her first studio album, "The Return," was released in 2019 and peaked at number 12 on the Australian ARIA Charts. In 2022, she released her second album, "As Above, So Below," recorded in Zambia and incorporating elements of zamrock and polyrhythmic percussion. Sampa has received several awards, including two Australian Music Prizes for "Birds and the Bee9" and "The Return."
