Sara Ruiz is a Spanish viol player who studied viola da gamba with Itziar Atutxa and Pere Ros in Madrid, and later with Ventura Rico in Seville, where she graduated in 2005. She continued her studies with Lorenz Duftschmid in Trossingen and Vittorio Ghielmi in Lugano. Ruiz has performed as a soloist and with chamber ensembles such as Armonico Tributo Austria, La Cetra Basel Baroque Orchestra, and La Grande Chapelle across Europe and Latin America. She has recorded for labels including Harmonia Mundi, Classic Concert Records, Verso, and Brilliant Classics. In 2006, she won third prize and a special award for the best interpretation of K. F. Abel's music at the international "Bach-Abel" competition in Köthen, Germany. She plays on an anonymous viola da gamba from the Austrian school dating to the late 17th century.
