Saxon is an English heavy metal band formed in 1977 in Barnsley. The original lineup consisted of Biff Byford (vocals), Paul Quinn (guitar), Graham Oliver (guitar), Steve Dawson (bass guitar), and Pete Gill (drums). The band was a significant part of the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) and achieved eight UK Top 40 albums during the 1980s, including "Wheels of Steel" (1980) and "Denim and Leather" (1981). Their notable songs include "Denim and Leather," "Wheels of Steel," and "Heavy Metal Thunder." Saxon continues to tour regularly and has sold over 13 million albums worldwide.
