Scott McKenzie was an American singer and songwriter, best known for his 1967 hit "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)." Born Philip Wallach Blondheim III in Jacksonville, Florida, he grew up in North Carolina and Virginia. In the 1960s, he was a member of the folk group The Journeymen alongside John Phillips, who later joined The Mamas & the Papas. After the group's dissolution, McKenzie pursued a solo career, achieving international success with the aforementioned single, which became an anthem of the hippie movement. In the 1980s, he collaborated with The Beach Boys on the song "Kokomo" and performed with a reformed version of The Mamas & the Papas. He passed away in 2012 in Los Angeles.
