Scritti Politti is a British band formed in 1977 in Leeds by singer-songwriter Green Gartside, who remains the sole constant member. Initially influenced by punk and leftist politics, they transitioned to commercial pop in the 1980s. Their most successful album, "Cupid & Psyche 85" (1985), features hits like "Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)", "Absolute", and "The Word Girl". In 1988, they released "Provision" with the hit "Oh Patti". After a hiatus, they returned in 1999 with "Anomie & Bonhomie" and in 2006 released "White Bread Black Beer", which was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.
