Sharp Pins is the solo project of Chicago musician Kai Slater, known as the frontman of the art-punk band Lifeguard. Slater founded Sharp Pins to explore a new musical direction, distinct from Lifeguard's intense style. The debut album, "Turtle Rock," was released in 2023, followed by "Radio DDR" in 2024, which was initially released as a cassette and later expanded with three new tracks. Sharp Pins' music blends elements of indie rock, power pop, and lo-fi aesthetics, drawing inspiration from 1960s British rock and 1990s lo-fi indie. Slater is also active in the Chicago music scene through the Hallogallo zine and collaborations with bands like Dwaal Troupe and Lifeguard.
