Sonny Red, born Sylvester Kyner Jr., was an American jazz alto saxophonist and composer associated with the hard bop genre. In the 1950s, he performed with Barry Harris and Art Blakey. He released albums such as "Out of the Blue" (1960) and "Breezing" (1960). Red collaborated with Curtis Fuller, Donald Byrd, and Grant Green. By the 1970s, his career had faded into obscurity.
