Spandau Ballet was an English new wave band formed in 1979 in Islington, London. The group became one of the most successful of the New Romantic era, selling 25 million albums and achieving 23 hit singles worldwide. Their third album, "True," released in 1983, featured the title track that reached number one in the UK and the top 5 in the US. Other notable songs include "Gold" and "Through the Barricades." The band was active from 1979–1990 and 2009–2019, earning accolades such as the Brit Award for Technical Excellence in 1984.
