Sponge is an American rock band formed in Detroit in 1992. Their 1994 debut album, "Rotting Piñata," features hits "Plowed" and "Molly (16 Candles Down the Drain)," contributing to its RIAA gold certification in 1995. The follow-up album, "Wax Ecstatic" (1996), included singles "Wax Ecstatic (To Sell Angelina)" and "Have You Seen Mary." Known for their alternative rock and grunge sound, the band has undergone several lineup changes, with vocalist Vinnie Dombroski remaining the sole constant member.
