Stephen Wilkinson was a British conductor and composer, renowned for his work with the BBC Northern Singers and the William Byrd Singers. Born on April 29, 1919, in Cambridgeshire, he studied at Queens' College, Cambridge. Throughout his career, he championed contemporary music, premiering works by composers such as Richard Rodney Bennett and John McCabe. His own compositions include "Dover Beach" and "The Sunlight on the Garden." Wilkinson was awarded an MBE for services to choral music in 1992. He passed away on August 10, 2021, at the age of 102.
