Thanatos is a Dutch extreme metal band formed in 1984 in Rotterdam. They are considered the first death metal band in the Netherlands. Their debut album, "Emerging from the Netherworlds," was released in 1990, followed by "Realm of Ecstasy" in 1992. After several lineup changes and a hiatus, the band returned in 1999, releasing albums such as "Angelic Encounters" (2000) and "Violent Death Rituals" (2020). Their music blends elements of death and thrash metal. Throughout their career, they have collaborated with members of bands like Asphyx and Hail of Bullets.
