The Associates were a Scottish post-punk and new wave band formed in 1979 by vocalist Billy Mackenzie and multi-instrumentalist Alan Rankine. Their debut album, "The Affectionate Punch," was released in 1980, followed by the compilation "Fourth Drawer Down" in 1981. Their most successful album, "Sulk," released in 1982, featured hits like "Party Fears Two" and "Club Country." The band was known for their experimental approach to music and Mackenzie's distinctive vocals. After Rankine's departure in 1982, Mackenzie continued under The Associates name, releasing albums such as "Perhaps" (1985) and "Wild and Lonely" (1990).
