The Bats are an influential New Zealand rock band formed in 1982 in Christchurch. The original lineup consisted of Robert Scott (vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards), Kaye Woodward (lead guitar, vocals), Paul Kean (bass guitar), and Malcolm Grant (drums). The band is known for their contribution to the Dunedin sound, a subgenre of indie pop. Their 1987 debut album, "Daddy's Highway," is considered a classic of New Zealand music. Subsequent albums include "The Law of Things" (1990), "Fear of God" (1991), and "Silverbeet" (1993). After a hiatus in the mid-1990s, the band returned with "At the National Grid" in 2005 and has continued to create and perform since.
