The Dam Jawn is a quintet of five young musicians from the Amsterdam jazz scene who came together during a shared stay in Philadelphia. During their six-month stay in the USA, they found a common musical voice and began composing and arranging new music inspired by their experiences. The quintet is international: Martin Diaz (alto saxophone) and Joan Fort (guitar) are from Barcelona, Spain; Philip Lewin (double bass) from Stuttgart, Germany; Nitin Parree (drums) and Frank Groenendijk (tenor saxophone) are from the Netherlands. Their debut album 'Master St.' features legendary alto saxophonist Dick Oatts, who mentored them in writing and arranging their music. The Dam Jawn has crafted its own sound, inspired by the energy and atmosphere of the current Philadelphia jazz scene and its rich musical history.
