The Dictators are an American rock band formed in New York City in 1973. They are considered pioneers of punk rock and proto-punk. Their debut album, "The Dictators Go Girl Crazy!", was released in 1975, followed by "Manifest Destiny" in 1977 and "Bloodbrothers" in 1978. Despite initial lack of commercial success, they gained a cult following and influenced many later punk bands. The band underwent several lineup changes; founding members included Andy Shernoff, Ross "The Boss" Friedman, and Scott "Top Ten" Kempner.
