The Gits were a punk rock band formed in 1986 at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The band members—vocalist Mia Zapata, guitarist Andy Kessler (known as Joe Spleen), bassist Matt Dresdner, and drummer Steve Moriarty—relocated to Seattle in 1989, where they quickly became part of the local music scene. They released two studio albums: "Frenching the Bully" in 1992 and "Enter: The Conquering Chicken" in 1994. The band disbanded after the tragic death of Mia Zapata in 1993. Their music was known for energetic performances and a blend of punk with blues influences.
