The Platters are an American vocal group formed in 1953 in Los Angeles. The original lineup included Tony Williams (tenor), Herb Reed (bass), Zola Taylor (alto), Paul Robi (baritone), and David Lynch (tenor). The group is known for hits such as "Only You (And You Alone)", "The Great Pretender", "My Prayer", "Twilight Time", and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes". Their musical style encompasses R&B, soul, and rock and roll. In 1990, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
