The Thing is a Scandinavian free jazz trio formed in 2000, consisting of Mats Gustafsson (baritone saxophone), Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (electric bass), and Paal Nilsson-Love (drums). In 2013, they collaborated with Thurston Moore, guitarist of Sonic Youth, for a series of concerts that resulted in the album "Live." This album was recorded on February 10, 2013, at London's Café OTO and released in December 2014 under The Thing Records. The collaboration combined the trio's free jazz improvisations with Moore's experimental rock style.
