The Toreadors was a one-off session group that recorded the single "Thembi" and "Gwinyitshe" on October 3, 1972. This single was released on the Motella label, part of the Mavuthela Music division of Gallo Africa. The recording was produced by Ray Nkwe, who worked with various companies and organized African jazz sessions in the 1970s and 80s. "Thembi" was written by Ray Nkwe, and "Gwinyitshe" was written by Teaspoon Ndelu, who also played on the recording. The group is known for its soul-jazz sound with elements of psychedelic jazz.
