The Tornados were an English instrumental rock group formed in 1961 in London. They served as the backing band for producer Joe Meek and singer Billy Fury. Their biggest hit, "Telstar," reached number one on both the UK and US charts in 1962, making them the first British group to achieve a US number one single. Other notable tracks include "Globetrotter" and "Robot." The band was active until 1967 and reunited several times thereafter. Their music influenced many subsequent instrumental artists.
