Product description

On September 18, 1971, The Who headlined the 'Goodbye Summer: A Rock Concert' at The Oval cricket ground in Kennington, South London. This benefit event, organized to aid famine relief for the people of Bangladesh, attracted over 35,000 attendees. For the first time, this legendary concert is officially released as 'Live at the Oval 1971'. The concert captures The Who at a pivotal moment in their career, shortly after the release of their groundbreaking album 'Who's Next', with the setlist featuring five tracks from this then-new album. The performance is renowned for its energy, culminating in the iconic destruction of instruments by Pete Townshend and Keith Moon. This recording has been newly mixed from the original 8-track analog tapes by Bob Pridden and Richard Whittaker, with mastering by Jon and Layla Astley. The packaging features art direction and design by Richard Evans and an illustration by Josh Townshend, Pete Townshend's nephew. Liner notes are provided by Andy Neill. 'Live at the Oval 1971' will be released on August 22, 2025, in vinyl format. This product is available in the pop and rock genres.
