Thomas Sanderling is a German conductor known for his interpretations of Dmitri Shostakovich's works. Born on October 2, 1942, in Leningrad, he studied at the Leningrad Conservatory and the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. In 1992, he became the music director of the Osaka Symphony Orchestra in Japan. Sanderling recorded the complete symphonies of Albéric Magnard and received the Cannes Classical Award in 2003 for his recording of Karl Weigl's Fifth Symphony. In 2004, he was appointed principal guest conductor of the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2007, he recorded the complete works of Sergei Taneyev for Naxos.
